miniature tigers + freelance whales.

Sold out show at the Troubadour last night, Miniature Tigers and Freelance Whales. It was a pretty good show, not the greatest but good. Just moved a little slow and it felt like both bands needed a few red bulls. I more so went to see Miniature Tigers since I missed their last show. I got to say I was a teeny bit disappointed with their live performance, it was a bit choppy at times and vocals weren't always the greatest. I did however appreciate how they brought a random fan up to play drums for them on a few songs, that was pretty cool. Freelance was nice and mellow. I liked their attempt at stage design, they put up a stitched backdrop and some cool handmade flower lights. Getting past the dirty shoe smell of the Troubadour (or maybe that was the guy standing next to me) the show was swell.

Please check out their websites for more. Simon Cordova and Corey Nickols, both Los Angeles based. Also take some time and visit the Rwanda site, its really an amazing program and opportunity for the students. fyi, they accept donations :)

yelle.

Yelle at the Echoplex on Friday night. wow. One of the BEST shows I've been to in a while. I was super bummed that I was missing Dr. Dog at the Wiltern but couldn't be more happier that I opted for Yelle instead. It was a sweaty dance party hot disaster that needed to happen. Later on to be followed by Two Boots that didn't disappoint. We ate good pizza and made some interesting new friends, who by the end of the night were mooning us. It was that kind of night.

2 d O O r cinema club.

Went to 2 Door Cinema Club last night at the Music Box. The Generationals opened up for them, their performance was okay. I was a little disappointed with them live. They lacked energy and enthusiasm, basically they were bland. Two Door on the other hand was pretty awesome. Check out some videos from the show.

fun.

BEST SHOW EVER!
I went to the Music Box last night in Hollywood with some friends for the Fun. show. Unfortunately we got there late so I missed the opening acts but its cool because all I really care about is FUN! I've been in love with this band for a very long time starting with The Format days and am always blown away when I see them live. Nate is an amazing performer, so much energy and passion when he sings. Love love LOVE! Was such a great show. (http://www.ournameisfun.com/)
ps. one of my favorite photographs of them (above) shot by Brooklyn based photographer Elizabeth Weinberg. Check out her site she has amazing work.

my friday night just got 100% better.

LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip @ the hollywood bowl baby! What a G R E A T show!
For my second time at the bowl I've got to say, not too shabby being in free box seats, ha! Pretty intense show, felt like a huge dance rave club. Non-stop dance dance dance, it was awesome. Thank you Amyjo for the tickets, and Katie for the invite! Although our post plans for Little Bar got drowned at the end of the night. Unfortunately Amyjo's car was out of gas and it took a few tests to figure out that's indeed what it was. What an adventure!

the morning benders.

Went to the Music Box last Thursday with a few friends to see The Morning Benders. It was a good show, but I did feel like it took them a little while to start getting into it. It was a little boring at first, they just needed to be a bit more engaging. Towards the end it picked up and was much better. Still disappointed that they did not play Crosseyed or Promises though. EOV. (east of vermont)

Went to the Culture Collide Festival on Sunday in Echo Park with a few friends. Caught Phantogram and Jenny and Johnny. Both really good shows but Phantogram was definitely my favorite of the two. Another favorite of the festival was the ice cream truck! Lake St. Creamery, o-m-g had the BEST ice cream flavors ever! I had a cream soda and glazed donut ice cream float...heavennnnn! (http://www.lakestreetcreamery.com/) Oh, they also feature the cutest kitten eating a tiny ice cream cone video on their website. They have won my heart.

LUDO
Last Friday night I was at The Key Club for the Ludo show. One of my favorite bands Tommy and the High Pilots opened. They were amazing! Based in Santa Barbara, not only is their music ridiculously awesome, they are the nicest people you will find. Please check them out !

last night at the echo.

Ferraby Lionheart.
First Aid Kit.

Went to The Echo last night for the First Aid Kit show. It was really nice. Basia Bulat opened followed by Ferraby Lionheart. Basia is a Canadian singer, very folky style. She sang this one song that was Polish about visiting the zoo, I really liked it. (sorry I didn't record any videos of her performance) Next up was Ferraby Lionheart, they were amazing. The video I recorded of Ferraby got messed up (cough* cough* Marguerite) but you can still hear the audio, so its all good. Also, check out their site (http://www.ferrabylionheart.com/).
First Aid Kit was so so good. Very intimate performance and they were actually quite funny in between songs. Always a good time at the echo.

drinking horchata.

Super fun Sunday! Went to the Abbot Kinney Festival with Marguerite in the afternoon. We walked around, checked out vendors, ate some food, and got henna tattoos. Lily and company picked me up straight from the festival and then we headed to the show. Stopping at Trader Joe's on the way for food and booze of course. We picnicked for an hour before hand across the street from the Hollywood Bowl, so much fun! The show was awesome. Beach House was really good (although they did not play my fav song) and Vampire Weekend was amazing! It was my first visit to the Bowl and couldn't have been a better introduction. I loved it, definitely need to go again soon.

rolling greens.

Marguerite and I attended our first terrarium workshop hosted by Rolling Greens today. It was AMAZING! I highly recommend checking it out next time they have one. The woman's name is Beth, she's super nice and very helpful. I learned a lot about how to care for them and which plants work best with each other and in what environments. You choose from cactus or tropical and then pick your glass container depending on your choice. They had many different plants to choose from as well as moss, rocks, glass, and sand. The workshop is free but you must buy all the supplies there. If you choose to bring in your own container they charge you a $20 fee. Rolling Greens is located on Beverly Blvd right off of Fairfax near the grove.

sunday fun day brunch.

My roommate and I decided to host a Sunday fun day brunch at our place. Lots of food, lots of people, it was a good ole time. Everyone was chatting, mimosas were flowing, it was a very nice Sunday indeed. After eating we walked down a few blocks to the Melrose Trading Post at Fairfax High School. It was super hot outside. I did however find a dresser and Lily got a table, which was awesome. Carrying it back 4 blocks, not so awesome. I'm excited though, my bedroom is finally almost complete, yay!

in love with the mustache.

I went to LOCAL N A T I V E S @ The Music Box in Hollywood on Saturday night. They put on a really good show, amazing live. I think I've fallen in love with the lead singer.

Second time seeing the opening band, The Union Line...they were awesome as well. Really loved their merch, I got a shirt. It's super cute.

labor day.

It doesn't get much better than this. I spent Labor Day in gorgeous Malibu with the most awesome people. Not to make you too jealous but we were on a private beach front house basking in the sun all day, it was amazing.

work.

So I cannot really say what we are shooting, (top secret stuff) but it was amazing. Here is a shot I took on set with a new app I downloaded (Thanks to Rennie Solis for showing me: http://www.renniesolis.com/). The cast was amazing, especially little Max Charles. The crew worked long and hard but it was all worth it, can't wait to see the final videos!

there is a new cat on the block.

This is pablo. He is the new ice cream cat. I adopted him from the SPCA in Long Beach. He's 3 months old and the cutest thing I've ever seen. He is named after Pablo Neruda, a well known poet from the 20th century. Famous for his collection of love poems, I found it appropriate. Pablo happens to have a heart shaped marking on is side. Its so ridiculously adorable, its sickening. Very happy and thankful for my new companion.

flare.

So I took this picture early morning over the weekend when I went out to walk Bette (dogsitting). I was pleasantly surprised with the quality; the camera on the iPhone 4 is awesome. I had to play around with the angle for a little while but ended up with this amazing natural lens flare. Pretty sweet, I think.

life's short, wear a dress.

The ice cream cat had a birthday. It was a magical evening of celebration. All the greatest people I know uniting for our annual confetti fight of 2010. It was amazing. First drinks, then confetti, followed by dinner at the Magic Castle, and lastly more drinks. I couldn't have asked for anything more. A giant THANK YOU goes out to Toby, Randy, Ron, Renato, Marlena, Marguerite, Chrissy, Arielle, Todd, Ben, Lauren, and Carl. You guys are the best!
